SPOILERS ... SPOILERS ... SPOILERS
Unfortunately she is also rude, presumptous and sometimes very violent. The translation from paper to screen is just not good enough.
I hate those buying of shoes scenes. Same as pandering to those rich ah-tais. I don’t think Sik Sik deserves that level of attention. I always felt Ruco is more suited for Chun Chun, they have more things in common. Someone told me so and my answer was “Well Chun Chun is not the lead character”.
So that settles the whole issue.
I didn’t feel oooh and ahhh because
a. she won’t appreciate his effort
b. waste of time to show
c. should have been earlier and no ep 17 when earlier he was chastised for being a minion and a sellout. That scene perfectly shows why he is a minion and a sellout.
“How is that so, i mean what you said about Sik Sik making use of him?”
In a way she is also pressuring him to do what Yikiu ask of him because
a. yikiu is her idol
b. she wants him to go back to composing songs
Maybe not as directly selfish as yikiu but in her own way she is using emotional blackmail to get things done. I don’t find that honourable at all. At this point I am still wondering what he sees in Sik Sik other than the fact that she is the leading lady and he HAS to fall for her.
I have no doubt in the end she will know he bought her the shoes, saved her bracelet, was the white night AND wrote a song for her so she will end up with her. Is there any doubt about that? Of course not.
But the way to that is such an ardously boring journey. The shoe buying may be romantic for a lot of people but for me a good waste of 15 minutes of good storytelling time which should have given me more about him, Yi Kiu and Sik Sik rather than showing his romantic side. We already know he will do anything for her. She betrayed and emotionally blackmailed him, he bought her a coconut. Many times he saved her. Many times he was the one who said sorry first. Until now Sik Sik has yet to apologise for her harsh words against him. Who is the cynic? Sik Sik. And she asked him to do something she herself could not do. Have a drink with Nic? Nope, she will run away first. But she is forcing our guy to write a song for the love of his life who prostituted herself to another man when she was still with him. More importantly, Sik Sik should have said he can compose songs again for other people, not Yi Kiu. When she saw how Yi Kiu’s sales dropped, she rushed to find Ruco to bargain a deal. I think it is obvious she did that for 2 reasons; her idol and his talent but she assumes their breakup was petty because she didn’t know the full story. Knowing Sik Sik’s nature if she had known how Yee Kiu dumped him, would she have been so quick to judge Ruco and assist Yee Kiu? Well I don’t know because the series seems rather schizophrenic when it comes to Sik Sik’s personality.
At episode 17, I find myself liking her less and less when I should be rooting for her. Sik Sik makes no logical sense so my only conclusion is she is a hypocrite and Ruco can do better without her. Which goes back to my question why her? And the answer is because the writer says so. In real life I will advise Ruco to think twice before going out with such a woman. She seems great on paper, on surface but deep down she is quite a troubling individual with a whole lot of conditions for someone to fulfil when she herself can’t fill half of them.
